Efteling theme park
Eline’s love for storytelling, wonder and escapism was kindled by the wonderful Dutch theme park Efteling, which she often visited as a child and still visits regularly with her husband and sons.
Rapunzel
Despite its obvious flaws (‘Who trades her firstborn for lettuce?’), Rapunzel has always been Eline’s absolute favourite fairytale. She wrote numerous adaptations of this intriguing tale, until Disney came up with the ultimate adaptation that elevated this Brothers Grimm fairytale to an epic, perfect level.

Horror stories
Eline always had a fondness of the dark. As a child she preferred Pirate Lego and Playmobil Knights to Barbies. She loved the creepy older versions of fairytales and the books of Roald Dahl, Anthony Horrowitz and Dutch writer Paul Van Loon, who coincidentally (or not) now writes the Efteling books. Eline’s great aunt bought her her first book in the R.L. Stine Goosebumps series. After that she became a huge Stephen King fan. She always loved how dark tales made reality seem brighter.
Always the wanderer
Eline wanted to write her first novel when she was six and started working on the initial chapters of ‘Alone in the world’ in Flemish Dutch, the first of an endless amount of unfinished projects scattered about in her first small flower-patterned notebook, and many increasingly bigger ones, countless Word documents and iPhone notes.
The theme park De Efteling and the Deltas audio cassette tapes made her fall in love with fairytales and stories. They often pulled her out of her melancholy. When she was in her twenties, she met a young man named Domien who had created his own audio drama fairytale and bought his CD: The Will of the Woods. When she listened to it, she realized she hadn’t fallen in love with a story like this since she’d discovered The Lord of the Rings. Of course, marrying the author was the best decision she’d made since buying his audio drama.
Eline had tried to get rid of her shy nature by taking acting and improv classes, performing in some smaller plays and musicals on stage. But discovering the merits of this now old imaginative medium, she accepted it as a welcome excuse to hide behind the scenes again. She devoted her experience in theatre and literature to Audio Epics, directing the voice performances and editing the novels, before she became a co-writer. She also plays a number of characters in the Audio Epics stories. Not just the obvious ones, like Samina in Witch Hunter, but she also voices The Storyteller in the same production, plays a seductive (and scary) demoness in The Beast of the Western Wilds, the monster Cranquor in The Treasure of Boneyard Bay and the dorzels in The Will of the Woods.
Eline is usually the ‘idea’-girl who leads the brainstorm sessions and develops a detailed outline of the stories. She loves fantasy with a sense of humour and heart and intends to bring those qualities to the Audio Epics productions.
Thanks to her husband, she was finally able to finish that first novel when they wrote The Treasure of Boneyard Bay together, and, after that, The Hounds of Hübschdorf. Domien and Eline turn out to be very compatible as a writing team and as the parents of their two little boys.
Eline would love to be a full time creative writer or content creator. She currently works as a freelance copywriter for boring commercial texts, a job that has taught her everything about cavity wall insulation and source draining. She’s often felt unfulfilled professionally and ever remains the wanderer, on the lookout for a creative job that would make her happy.
