Wieseke - Aloïs Avatar

Grandpa Aloïs Jansen

Aloïs Jansen, his grandfather on mother’s side, has always been Domien’s role model. During the war, he made radios for the resistance. He always showed a keen interest in technology and was thrilled to learn about Domien’s creative endeavours. He passed away in 2017.

Tolkien Avatar

Professor J.R.R. Tolkien

Tolkien has always been Domien’s biggest source of inspiration. He’s been a life-long fan of The Lord of the Rings since he discovered the comics based on the movie adaptation by Ralph Bakshi when he was six. He later devoured all of Tolkien’s novels and never found anything in modern fantasy to match them.

Antwerp Cathedral

Antwerp Cathedral

Domien is proud of his Antwerp heritage. The Antwerp Cathedral of Our Lady inspired him to write the story Witch Hunter, his most popular one till this day.

From hobby to passion

Domien’s creative journey was inspired by the audio cassette tapes with ghost stories that his grandfather used to make for him, the Lecturama fairytales and the BBC audio dramas of The Lord of the Rings. Together with a childhood friend, Olivier, he decided to write and produce his own audio stories, first in Flemish Dutch, and later in English. Domien and Olivier dreamed big and called their little bedroom production studio Dream Gate Studios. Their first stories, like The Archbishop, What Evil Lurks in Darkshire and The Cathedral of Crimsitha, were often absurd in tone and based on their favourite franchises, like Star Wars.

Later in life, the two men parted ways to raise their own families. Domien remains the man behind (now) Audio Epics. He still writes and dramatizes his own epic fantasy stories to this day, now with his wife and two sons.

He also voices many major and minor characters inclucing Ludlov, the witch hunter character from the stories set in the world Hruda, and the Wraith from The Will of the Woods, Domien’s personal favourite.

Domien has been working in a legal library for 7 years. In 2014, he started Audio Epics on the side as a small family business. Occasionally, he does voice over and editing jobs for commercial, recreative and educational projects. He hopes to one day grow his business to a full-time job, so he can create more original dramatized audiobooks.
